Brainstorm Festival will almost start
Just one night of sleep and the 11th edition of the Brainstorm Festival bursts loose. The doors will open at 18.00 on Friday, after which the Despicable Heroes (NL) will break loose on the mainstage. Pyramaze is headliner that day.
On Saturday the party will continue from 14.00 hrs with J'Accuse (NL). That evening will include Tourniquet (USA, for the first time since 2009 back in Europe) and Eric Clayton (USA, 'the voice of Saviour Machine') on stage.
Besides numerous concerts, the Brainstorm Festival offers a lot more.
How about a band T-shirt exchange, a tasting with dirty cookies and an exhibition of horror movie posters. Of course, on both days there will also be programming in the theatre with special concerts by Leonov (NO), Federico Truzzi (ITA), Opus Irae (DE) and 2Strings (ITA).
Tickets are available in presale until the doors open. If you are too late, no worries: tickets are still available at the ticket office. So we hope to meet you on Friday and Saturday at the Brainstorm Festival.
Experience the taste of a cancer patient
How does a cookie taste for a cancer patient? It is precisely this question that will be answered at the Brainstorm Festival.
Robert Greene, chairman of the Hunger and Thirst Foundation, states that the sand cookie helps to make people more aware of the taste of a cancer patient. Because as many as 75 percent of cancer patients suffer from taste disorder as a side effect of medicines. Greene himself has had colon cancer and therefore knows exactly how patients experience the food. Everything you eat has a dirty taste. You can hardly explain how it is to eat. It just becomes a burden. Nothing tasted good according to him still. Not even water".
At the Brainstorm Festival Greene gives a presentation of these 'cancer biscuits', or ATE (Awareness Through Experience) biscuits. Moreover, visitors have the opportunity to taste the cookies on Saturday during a tasting in the foyer.
Christian Boomker worked as a cook for three quarters of a year on the development of this special biscuit. According to Greene, he succeeded in imitating the taste in one go. Would you like to experience that for yourself? Then come and taste it in the foyer. You get a biscuit against payment of a voluntary gift, the proceeds of which will go entirely to the Hunger and Thirst Foundation.
Friday at 18:00 the festival opens
It's almost there again, in 10 days the Brainstorm Festival 2018 will start. It' s about time to announce the timetable for the festival!
On Friday the doors will open at 18:00 with fifteen minutes later the opening of the festival by Despicable Heroes. After this there will be performances by Angel Nation, Leonov and Signum Regis, to be concluded with Pyramaze. A nice start of the festival.
On Saturday the doors will open at 14:00 and we will start the day fifteen minutes later with the heroes of J'Accuse. After this there will be performances by Opus Irae, 2Strings, Diviner, Power Quest, Federico Truzzi and Eric Clayton And The Nine. At the end of the festival there will be a legendary performance by Tourniquet.
Ronald Simons (Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam) exhibits
Metalbands often use dark artwork for their albums and merchandise where the average horror fan would be jumping from joy. In recent years we have exhibited some very nice examples of this at Brainstorm Festival. Especially those explicit, hand-drawn album covers were always very popular.
This year we went looking for artwork from horror and science fiction films from the seventies and eighties, when whole spectacle pieces were put on paper to lure the curious viewer into the cinema. For some film posters you can safely say that the quality is better than the film itself.
Ronald Simons, film programmer at Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam, spends all his life collecting special film posters and he comes to Brainstorm with a number of highlights from his collection. You will find him on Saturday in the foyer, where you can admire his proud possessions and talk to him about your favorite movies. Don't miss it!
Eric Clayton (Saviour Machine) extra headliner
The line-up of the Brainstorm Festival 2018 is complete. Earlier this week, Tourniquet (USA) had already been presented as headliner, today Eric Clayton And The Nine (USA/NL) is added as second headliner. In addition, Diviner (GR), Federico Truzzi (ITA), 2Strings (ITA) en J’Accuse (NL) join the party.
Eric Clayton And The Nine is the new band around the front man of Saviour Machine. Expected covers from Saviour Machine, but also songs from David Bowie. And who knows, the band might present some more own material. Anyway, it is going to be a special show that the real Saviour Machine fans should not miss.
Less known but at least as convincing are the gentlemen of Diviner. The Greek heavy metal band relies heavily on thrashy guitar riffs and combines that with a passionate live show. The band had already been in the Netherlands before and managed to win many souls there. On the Brainstorm Festival, the audience is sure to get a taste of their new album.
Federico Truzzi is a child at home at the Brainstorm Festival. In the past few years he has been regularly present with his band Sleeping Romance and became a favourite with the public. This year Truzzi released released a solo album, which he presents in our theatre. For a moment no guitar skills but piano, accompanied by cello and violin.
2Strings is the accompaniment band of Federico Truzzi but also give an independent performance in the theatre hall of the Brainstorm Festival. Famous songs are given a classic look. At right angles to the serene tranquillity in the auditorium is the tough performance that J'Accuse is going to give. The Dutch hardcore band opens the second day of the Brainstorm Festival.
Special guest: singer Les Carlsen (Bloodgood)
Tourniquet (USA) has been confirmed as the headliner of the Brainstorm Festival 2018. The band returns to Europe for the first time since 2009 and presents their new album 'Gazing At Medusa' at the Brainstorm Festival. As a special guest, singer Les Carlsen (Bloodgood, USA) will come along, who recorded an album with Tourniquet exactly 25 years ago.
With 'Gazing At Medusa', Tourniquet is back in action. On the new album, the band went all out with on microphone singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens (Judas Priest / Iced Earth) and a guest role for singer Deen Castronovo (Journey). For the guitar work, the band managed to attract Chris Poland (Megadeth). More than enough reason to see Tourniquet live at work at the Brainstorm Festival in Apeldoorn on November 10th.
Power Quest, Angel Nation and Despicable Heroes to Brainstorm Festival
The programming of the 11th edition of the Brainstorm Festival is steadily taking shape. Power Quest (UK), Angel Nation (UK) and Despicable Heroes (NL) have been added to the line-up of the event that will take place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 November 2018 in Gigant, Apeldoorn. The headliner of the festival will follow, as will many other bands.
With Power Quest, Brainstorm Festival brings DragonForce's 'brother' into its home. The English band was founded by Steve Williams, who was active in the early years at DragonForce. Power Quest also knows how to play infectious power-metal. Since their come-back in 2016 it's the band for the wind, as witnessed by the strong album 'Sixth Dimension'.
Angel Nation has no less than Elina Siirala standing behind the microphone. Nowadays we also know this Finnish singer from Leaves' Eyes, but Angel Nation is her first love. Like Power Quest, Angel Nation has released a new album through Innerwound Recordings, and the hit single 'Burn The Witch' is driving the gothic-metal band to ever-increasing heights.
What else can we say about Despicable Heroes? After winning the Metal Battle earlier this year, the band is a welcome guest on many festivals. The band had already performed at the Brainstorm Festival before and we are now adding a new chapter. Despicable Heroes operates on the border between metalcore and death metal, so it's going to be wild.
Earlier the Brainstorm Festival announced the arrival of Pyramaze (DK/USA), Signum Regis (SK), Leonov (NO) and Opus Irae (DE). The early bird action is over, but regular tickets (weekend combi and day tickets) are available from now on via:
The 11th edition of the Brainstorm Festival will take place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 November in pop venue Gigant in Apeldoorn. In addition to the mainstage, the festival also makes use of the theatre for special performances, interviews and debate. There is also an exhibition, a beer tasting and a small metal market.
Headliner for Brainstorm 2018 to be announced soon
Although we are still holding the headliner secret for a while, we already have a number of fantastic acts to announce! Reason enough to attend the Brainstorm Festival in Gigant in Apeldoorn on the 9th and 10th of November. A week you long you can buy early bird tickets at an attractive price.
The progressive metalband Pyramaze (DK/USA) will come to the 11th edition of the Brainstorm Festival. Last year the band performed at ProgPower Europe, and that convincing show was reason enough to invite the gentlemen to the Brainstorm Festival this time.
Also joining the party: Signum Regis (SK), who have already performed at the Brainstorm Festival in the past. In recent years the band has built up a huge fan base in the Netherlands and this will be their only show in 2018 on Dutch soil.
You can relax at the Brainstorm Festival with the show of Leonov (NO). The Norwegians perform in the atmospheric theatre of stage Gigant. Two years ago Leonov was the surprise of the Brainstorm Festival, which last year resulted in a show at the Female Metal Event FemME in Eindhoven. Now the band returns to Apeldoorn!
Those who prefer their music to be rock-hard should not miss the show of Opus Irae (DE). This symphonic black-metal band presents their debut album. Besides a show on the mainstage, the band also gives a subdued, classically oriented performance in the theatre.
Now that the first names are announced, it is also possible to buy an early bird ticket. For only 30 euros you can experience the whole festival on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 November! The promotion will last until Tuesday 3 July, after which the prices will be adjusted. So go here quickly!
